Cesc Fabregas reveals how ruthless Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is in player management

Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has revealed how ruthless Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is in player management.

Speaking on BT Sport (h/t Daily Mail), the former midfielder, who played under Conte during their time at the Blues revealed that the Italian tactician ‘controls everything’.

“He has clear ideas of what he wants to do, he brings an immediate impact into the club. A very, very smart guy, he controls everything. He got rid of [Branislav] Ivanovic club legend, [Diego] Costa our best striker – he doesn’t get attached to anybody.”

Conte took charge of the north London club in January, earlier this year. Since then, he has been a revelation for his current side and has managed to turn around their dismal performances under previous manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

The former Inter Milan coach has already shown his willingness to make the necessary changes at the club. Players like Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon and Matt Doherty have all been seriously struggling for regular playing time at Spurs.

While Ndombele is on loan at Napoli and Reguilon at Atletico Madrid, Doherty has fallen down the pecking order at the club. Emerson Royal is the preferred option on the right wing-back position, with summer signing Djed Spence also somewhere in the pecking order.

Davinson Sanchez has also suffered from his ruthlessness. The 26-year-old, who was once a regular has fallen down the pecking order and is usually bought in if any of the preferred defenders get injured – as was the case when Ben Davies was out against Arsenal.

It will be interesting to see how he deals with the likes of Son and Kane if and when they start to decline in the years that follow – and if he is still the manager at the club at the time. However, the focus for now has to be on the present – and ending our title drought.

The last game did not go according to plan for the manager. Spurs travelled to the Emirates to face Arsenal for the north London derby but were thrashed 3-1. This defeat bought an end to the unbeaten start in the league for Tottenham this season.

Conte will expect a better result from his side during their next game. The club will travel to face Eintracht Frankfurt this Tuesday for their Champions League group-stage game.
