Antonio Conte requests Spurs fans to help Tottenham Hotspur qualify from UCL group

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte understands the importance of fans when it comes to helping the team over the line on crucial occasions. Speaking after the game against Eintracht Frankfurt, he asked them for their help in their next two home matches in Europe.

Spurs played out a 0-0 draw against Die Adler, after which Conte was asked what he thinks about Spurs’ chances of making it out of their group which also contains Sporting CP and Olympique de Marseille.

He replied (h/t Football.London):

“Yeah but we need to be confident. At the start, before the start of the competition you asked me which were my thoughts about the group and I said there is a lot of balance in this group. In every game you can get points but you can lose points.”

He continued by saying that Spurs fans have to play a big role in his team’s qualification from the group/ Spurs, like Frankfurt, have four points from three games while Sporting CP have six and Marseille, three.

“For sure now we have two games at home. Like today in our stadium, there is an amazing atmosphere. Our fans have to play a big role in these two games because for sure we are going to play for qualification in the next two games.”

The two home games that he is talking about are against Frankfurt on 12 October and Sporting CP exactly two weeks later. We are yet to beat the two teams this season.

Before that, Spurs have the task of facing Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex this Saturday in the Premier League. Games are coming thick and fast – important ones – where it becomes very hard to risk and rest your best players.

This will be a test of this Spurs team’s depth. We strengthened in important places this summer which is why Lucas Moura and Dejan Kulusevski’s absence against Frankfurt wasn’t a death sentence for us.

Conte claimed that he feels Spurs were almost lucky to get eliminated from the UEFA Europa Conference League last season in the group stages. There is no way he will be thinking along the same line this campaign.
