Son Heung-min implies that it is a good sign Tottenham Hotspur are attracting criticism
Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min is happy with the criticism his side is getting as it implies that there are higher expectations from his club.
In an interview quoted in the Express, the Korean international reflected on a lot of things and demanded that his club back head coach Antonio Conte.
“As a team, as a great group, we have to stick together in these tough games. I think these criticisms are because the expectations are higher. We need to do much better than we did but I’m still believing that we can.”
Son started the game against Eintracht Frankfurt last time out. The game ended as a goalless draw and the north London club came under criticism from the fans and pundits alike.
This draw leaves Spurs second in their group with four points. Conte and the players will know that now they will likely have to win all their games if they want to qualify for the Round of 16.
On a personal level, the 30-year-old has not enjoyed a very good start to this season. The Korean international failed to score in his first six league games this season. Although he did score a hat-trick against Leicester City last month, he has not scored again since then.
Son struggled against Arsenal in their embarrassing 3-1 defeat last week. The Korean was again up to no good against Frankfurt and did not look very threatening in the entire 90 minutes.
It is natural for the players to come under scrutiny when playing for a club like Tottenham. But his being happy with the criticism shows his positive mentality. The player has urged his teammates to all improve their game and it is expected that they will.
