Tottenham players pay tribute to fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone

Spurs players have taken to social media to pay tribute to Tottenham Hotspur’s Italian fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone who unfortunately passed away yesterday after suffering from fulminant leukaemia.

The Italian coach is revered amongst the players and is known for his intense fitness regimes. He came to North London when Antonio Conte became the manager and his techniques came to the limelight during the pre-season.

Nicknamed the ‘Marine’ for his intense fitness sessions, Ventrone is best known for the work he did during his time at Juventus and has been responsible for the Old Lady winning a lot of trophies.

Ventrone has also spent time alongside Fabio Cannavaro at the Chinese Super League club Guangzhou. He left the post before Conte took him to Hotspur Way along with him last November.

Spurs superstar Harry Kane took to Twitter to express his condolences over the sudden loss of Ventrone.

Son Heung-Min who recently credited his unbelievable hattrick against Leicester City to Ventrone was devastated and wrote on Instagram how the Italian helped him during their time together

“Gian, you helped me get through the hardest times, and together we celebrated some some incredible memories. I cannot put in enough words my gratitude to you, and how much I owe to you”

New summer acquisition Richarlison also took to Twitter to reveal how much of an influence the fitness coach had on him.

From the way the players are reacting to the loss of Ventrone, it is evident how popular a figure the Italian coach was in the dressing room and there is no doubt that the players will be feeling devastated.

Conte took over as the manager of Spurs midway last season and anyone who has followed Tottenham since will know how much the fitness of the players has been improved in this time and Ventrone was the mastermind behind it.

More Tottenham News:

It remains to be seen who Conte brings in next. Ventrone did a great job at Spurs and left us too soon, but we need to make sure that we bring in the right person who can help the players maintain the fitness levels that the Italian coach drilled into them and take the legacy forward.
