Tottenham superstar Harry Kane sounds out a warning to Erling Haaland
Following Tottenham’s emotional 1-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion, in which Kane’s solitary goal was enough to get Spurs the three points, the English superstar sent out a warning to other PL strikers that the Golden Boot race is far from over.
Kane seemed to be hinting at Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland. The Norwegian has absolutely lit up the Premier League with his exploits but the Tottenham striker is confident of catching up.
The 29-year-old striker has been one of the most prolific scorers in the English top flight for many seasons now. He has scored goals for fun but there is a feeling that there is finally someone in the league more prolific than Kane.
Speaking about the influence of Haaland, Kane is confident that he can turn things around this season.
“No [I haven’t given up catching him], look there’s a long way to go and a lot of games to play. I always concentrate on myself. I don’t think about too many other people. We’ve got some great players in the Premier League, fantastic strikers. For me, it’s just about doing what I can for my team.”
In 12 matches this campaign across all competitions, Kane has scored eight goals and provided one assist. All of them have come in the Premier League but the 29-year-old is still far behind Haaland’s tally.
The Norwegian goal machine has almost doubled Kane’s goal tally at this stage of the season, scoring 15 goals until now. He is just seven shy of equalling Son Heung-Min’s golden boot-winning tally from last season.
One thing that Haaland has to his advantage is the fact that he plays in a far more free-flowing team than Kane does. This means that the Norwegian probably gets more chances than Kane would.
Haaland will also not be going for the World Cup. He would be well rested for the one month in between whilst Kane will be away on England duty. This could turn out to be a factor in the golden boot race too.
