Anthony Pulis backs Antonio Conte to implement his style of play at Tottenham

Anthony Pulis has backed Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte to fully implement his style of play.

Speaking to BBC, the former Stoke City and Crystal Palace manager has asked the Spurs fans to be patient and that they are going to have to ‘stomach’ a bit to see success at their club.

“Italian coaches have been brought up with the remit to build solid teams. Solid teams are built on good defences and Antonio worked very hard on the team being compact, being tight, dropping off, not letting teams run in behind. That’s the way he is and that’s the way he has been successful. If Tottenham are going to be successful with him then supporters, at times, are going to have to stomach it a little bit.”

His comments came after the former manager and now pundit was analysing Spur’s 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion last Saturday.

A header from Harry Kane was enough to seal all three points for the Lilywhites at the Amex against a very tricky opponent. The win also was their first in the last three games, with the previous two ending as a draw and defeat in all competitions.

Conte is one of the most successful coaches in the game. He has completely changed the side and still needs a bit more time to put it together to his liking. To criticise him for some of his tactics is not fair.

Spurs host Eintracht Frankfurt this Wednesday. A win would put the club in a commanding position to qualify for the next round, while also simultaneously shutting Conte’s critics for good.
