Tottenham Hotspur get major transfer boost as Inter Milan’s Stefan de Vrij begins agent search

According to FC Inter News (h/t TeamTalk), Tottenham Hotspur target Stefan de Vrij has started the search for a new agent, which indicates that he wants to leave Inter Milan in the near future.

Either that, or the Netherlands international wants someone capable of playing hardball and getting him the best salary package possible at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. His contract at Inter expires in the summer of 2023.

I Nerazzurri understandably want to extend his stay at the club but the player is expected not to renew his deal at least for the next few months. He is viewed as an ideal partner for Eric Dier in Spurs’ defence.

Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar were two other names we heavily targeted this summer but nothing came of it. In the end, a loan deal for Clement Lenglet from Barcelona was all we could manage in that area.

It’s about time manager Antonio Conte gets in a centre-back capable of leading our backline for several years. Eric Dier does that job well, mind you, but someone in the ilk of De Vrij could be a significant boost.

The 30-year-old has quality and experience by the truckload. He has an innate ability to sense danger and is a no-nonsense defender who takes no risks at the back.

That is especially the case with regard to our depth – something Conte doesn’t trust. Davinson Sanchez only gets minutes when he has to rest someone, while Japhet Tanganga can’t seem to get a game for his life.

Joe Rodon was so devoid of playing time that he had to leave for Stade Rennais this summer. With the World Cup in November, De Vrij’s stocks could rise further if he impresses with Holland.
