Chelsea legend Michael Ballack ‘disappointed’ by Tottenham Hotspur in their win vs Frankfurt

Michael Ballack knows a bit about Eintracht Frankfurt and about Tottenham Hotspur. The former Germany international spent the entirety of his professional career in his home country.

Well, apart from the four years he spent at Chelsea between 2006 and 2010. During this time, Ballack would have certainly gotten an idea about Spurs and the rivalry between the two London giants.

He watched closely when Spurs took on Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League group stage match earlier this week. The Lilywhites won 3-2 but not without trouble.

Daichi Kamada sent the travelling Frankfurt fans into a frenzy when he opened the scoring within the first 15 minutes of the game. Spurs then scored three quick goals before halftime to have a comfortable lead.

Frankfurt’s Tuta was shown a second yellow card around the hour mark, which should have made the game easy for Spurs to manage. It didn’t.

Frankfurt scored in the 87th minute and Harry Kane missed a late penalty. Hugo Lloris was among many who would have been disappointed by this display – especially in the last half hour of the game.

Ballack then gave his comments after the full-time whistle. He said he was disappointed by the way Spurs let Frankfurt come into the game in the second half after the sending-off. He said on Prime Video (h/t UEFA Champions League official website):

“I was a bit disappointed by Tottenham to allow ten-man Frankfurt to almost get back into this game. Frankfurt showed heart, you can never write them off, but they simply made too many mistakes.”

The result should be the main thing that matters but manager Antonio Conte and his backroom staff must keep analysing what we did wrong in the game and improve on it. Our next task is a home league game against Everton on Saturday.
