Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur to battle Arsenal and Manchester United for the ‘next Neymar’ Marcos Leonardo

Tottenham Hotspur are in the race with Arsenal and Manchester United to sign Santos starlet Marcos Leonardo, as per Calciomercato (h/t Sun).

The 19-year-old plays a centre-forward and has already scored 19 goals and provided five assists in 50 games for the Brazil club across competitions. His contract expires on the last day of 2026 (Transfermarkt).

It seems that he has the attention of the big European clubs. Liverpool were previously linked with him while Napoli are also said to be keeping track of his progress.

The teenager, however, has already given his verdict on where he wants to play next. He told the Mirror back in June this year:

“I want to play in the Premier League one day. I watch a lot of games, and it is one of the main championships in the world. Not only for the competition among the teams, but also for the whole league.”

He could be the player that we slot in for Harry Kane once the England international is no longer playing for us – be it via a transfer or retirement. However, that is a situation we can start thinking about later on.

Firstly, Spurs would have to be attentive and quick if they want Leonardo. There are several clubs after him and it wouldn’t be a wise decision to let such a talent slip away from our hands.

Tottenham have two promising young strikers out on loan – Dane Scarlett to Portsmouth and Troy Parrott to Preston North End. However, from what is being said about Leonardo, he could be the next big thing.

If he becomes even half the player Neymar Jr has been for Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), then it would be a great coup for any team that wants to get him.

With the player dreaming of playing in England, Spurs should be optimistic about their chances if it comes down to them and some other European club(s).
