Antonio Conte reveals initial apprehensions about playing Tottenham Hotspur star Richarlison

Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Premier League clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton as quoted by Football. London, Antonio Conte revealed his initial apprehensions about playing Brazilian star Richarlison as a part of a front three alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min.

Conte claims that he was scared about the balance of his side whilst playing three proper strikers with just two midfielders behind them, but the hard-working nature of the three players has made this formation work.

Richarlison has had a solid start to life at Hotspur Way. Conte initially preferred to use him off the bench in matches but his good form coupled with Dejan Kulusevski’s injury has made the Italian start the Brazilian in recent times.

The Brazilian star man will now welcome his former side to his new home and he will be hoping to put in a solid performance against his former employees. With Kulusevski still injured, there is a good chance that Richarlison starts today.

The 25-year-old has played 12 times for the Lilywhites this season across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing three assists until now. If he starts playing more minutes on a regular basis, these numbers will keep improving.

Conte has claimed that whilst he was definitely not expecting this formation to work, he is pleasantly surprised by its success.

“Honestly, at the start, I had some doubts about the balance to put three strikers like Richy, Harry and Sonny, because you know very well you have to attack, but at the same time, it’s important to have a good balance if you want to be competitive. We are talking about three strikers, but three strikers who work a lot for the team. This is why I think we can play with these three strikers”

There were many question marks about how Richarlison will fit in at the club when he was first signed, since not many strikers in the world, let alone the Brazilian would be able to displace Harry Kane.

The English superstar is arguably one of the best strikers in the world. He is Tottenham’s most important player and will continue to do so for a very long time. It is great news that Spurs have found a way to play Richarlison alongside Kane.
