Tony Cascarino backs Tottenham striker Harry Kane to beat Jimmy Greaves, Wayne Rooney, and Alan Shearer’s goal-scoring records

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has backed Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane to beat three historic goal-scoring records – one each by Jimmy Greaves, Wayne Rooney, and Alan Shearer.

Greaves is, of course, the all-time leading goal-scorer in Spurs’ history with 266 goals in 379 appearances. Kane is hurriedly closing in on his record and stands at 258 goals in 400 games across competitions for the Lilywhites.

The 29-year-old has several years ahead of him to score nine more goals and it’s safe to presume that he can meet that tally this season itself. So far, Kane has netted 10 goals in 14 matches across competitions this campaign.

The next in line is Wayne Rooney. The Manchester United legend has scored 53 goals for the Three Lions in 120 appearances.

Kane is set to overtake him in the near future if he scores just three more goals. He has a tally of 51 goals in just 75 games for his country. Next up, Alan Shearer and his iconic Premier League record.

The former Newcastle United centre-forward has 260 Premier League goals to his name. This is a record Kane would have to perhaps stay at Tottenham (or at least in England) for longer than his current contract at Spurs – which expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt).

Kane has 192 goals in the English top division – 16 behind second-placed Wayne Rooney. Cascarino believes our number 10’s achievements are not to be undervalued. Talking exclusively o TalkSPORT, he said:

“There’s some people who want to undermine what Harry Kane’s achievements are. He is an extraordinary striker, who’s going to beat Wayne Rooney England scoring record without doubt.”

“He’ll go past Jimmy Greaves, he could even get to Alan Shearer’s [Premier League goals] record. But there’s some people out there saying he’s not a good player.”

Kane is still in his prime years and we can expect him to break records set in England as long as he is here. For that, he would have to fend off Bayern Munich’s apparent interest in him – a club he has praised recently amidst the speculation.
