Tottenham Hotspur in touch with Antonio Conte regarding a new contract
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), North London giants Tottenham Hotspur are in touch with manager Antonio Conte regarding a new contract.
The Italian took over at N-17 following Nuno Espirito Santo’s sacking. Conte’s contract at Tottenham is set to expire at the end of the 2022-23 campaign but there exists the option to extend it by another season.
His time at Spurs has been reasonably successful so far. Not only did he lead us to a top-four finish last season, bringing back Champions League football but has also seen an overhaul of the squad.
Aided by a new identity and a summer rebuild, Tottenham look like a different outfit this season. They are proving to be early title contenders and could also book their spot in the last 16 of the Champions League this week.
However, as long as Conte’s contract is up in the air, it could act as a hindrance to our long-term plans. As things stand, Spurs remain confident that an agreement can be reached and that the 53-year-old will commit his future to Tottenham.
Perhaps giving him the requisite backing in the January transfer window could prove key. It might show the Italian that the resources will be made available for him to build the team he wants to compete with the best teams in Europe.
Should he extend his deal, it will be the first time since his spell at Juventus that he will have managed a club side for more than two years. His three-year spell from 2011-2014 is the lone exception.
A serial winner, the 53-year-old knows what it takes to build a winning side – just see his domestic track record at Juventus, Chelsea, and Inter Milan. Tottenham have no better alternative to entrust the process to.

Conte has been the best manager to fit Tottenham’s philosophy in recent times. While he is not afraid to speak his mind, Daniel Levy and co will do well to ensure that their main man is on board for the long haul.
With Pavel Nedved confirming that Juventus are not looking at Conte to replace Massimiliano Allegri, Spurs have no excuse not to go all in to keep their man.
