Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur contact Atalanta to sign Ruslan Malinovskyi

Tottenham Hotspur have contacted Atalanta’s head of recruitment, Lee Congerton, over a potential move for midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi, as per Il Giorno (h/t Sun).

The Ukraine international was heavily linked with a move to Spurs in the recent transfer window but stayed put in Italy. Since then, he has struggled for playing time this season under manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

He has played in 11 Serie A games this campaign but has started in just four of them. It is clear that the versatile midfielder has lost his cemented place in the starting XI.

He is in the final year of his contract at the Bergamo-based club (Transfermarkt), which is why Spurs could complete this coup for a measly fee of £13million. This deal should be a no-brainer and fans would be happy to hear that Spurs have allegedly taken a step to sign the Ukrainian.

Malinovskyi to Spurs?

Malinovskyi is an attacking midfielder who can also play in central midfield as well as a second striker. He could add the spark that we need in the middle of the park.

Pierre-Emile Hobjberg and Rodrigo Bentancur have done a very good job under manager Antonio Conte. However, neither are elite creative forces.

It would be interesting to see if Atalanta would be willing to part ways with him in the winter. This could be their last chance to cash in on him if he doesn’t renew his contract at the Gewiss Stadium.

At 29, he still has a fair bit of football left in his legs. The former KRC Genk and Shakhtar Donetsk is yet to play in the Premier League during his entire career and this could be the right time to take that step – if he does harbour interest in coming to England.
