Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco could be back on market as Tottenham Hotspur may get second chance in January
Tottenham Hotspur could sign Atletico Madrid forward Yannick Carrasco in the January transfer window, according to AS (h/t Express). The Spanish club have “got themselves in trouble” financially.
Los Rojiblancos failed to advance to the knockout stages of the Champions League. They even missed out on Europa League football as they finished last in their group.
Thus, considering the La Liga outfit will not be receiving any money from the European competitions, potential exits in the winter could be seen. And their Belgian star is someone Spurs had an eye on in the summer of 2022.
The North London side were linked with a move for the 29-year-old. Antonio Conte’s team were even ready to trigger the winger’s £51 million release clause. But the Madrid-based club were adamant about keeping a hold of him.
However, now, Atletico’s stance may have changed, looking at Carrasco’s poor form. And the Belgian is a player who is “very much liked in England”. Manchester United were associated with his signature previously as well.
Tottenham bought Richarlison in the recent transfer window to bolster the forward line. The Brazilian was signed from Everton. However, we already have two of the best attackers in the world, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, in the squad.
The gaffer was also afforded the signing of Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus in January 2022. And the Sweden international has made an immediate impact in North London, becoming a crucial part of the front line.
However, with
injuries to Richarlison and Kulusevski, the Lilywhites have struggled in recent weeks going forward. Carrasco is someone with the ability to bring creativity to the side. The Belgian is also versatile and can play as a wing-back.
