Rafael van der Vaart urges Chelsea and Morroco playmaker Hakim Ziyech to join Tottenham Hotspur
Chelsea playmaker Hakim Ziyech has been urged to join Tottenham Hotspur by ex-Spurs ace Rafael van der Vaart. The former Holland international has tipped the North London side to win the Premier League with the addition of the Moroccan.
The 29-year-old signed for the Blues in the summer of 2020 from Ajax. However, the attacking midfielder has failed to live up to expectations at Stamford Bridge. And he has fallen out of favour under new boss Graham Potter.
Speaking to Ziggo Sport (h/t Express), Van der Vaart, who spent two seasons at Tottenham, has called for Ziyech to move to North London. He feels Spurs could lift the English top-flight title with the playmaker.
“Hakim Ziyech has to join Tottenham. If Tottenham get Hakim Ziyech, they could win the Premier League. I am serious.”
The Moroccan was one of the best players in the Eredivisie during his time in Amsterdam. In the 2018/19 campaign, the 29-year-old had one of his best seasons, scoring 21 goals and providing 24 assists in 49 appearances in all competitions.
That was also the term Tottenham emphatically beat Ajax on away goals as the two legs ended 3-3 on aggregate in the Champions League semi-final. We booked a place in the final against Liverpool. Unfortunately, the North London side could not get past the Merseysiders.
However, since leaving De Godenzonen, Ziyech has found it difficult to find his feet in West London. In the current campaign, the Moroccan has made just seven appearances for the Blues in all competitions without contributing to a goal.
At Tottenham, the middle of the park is evidently dominated by players who are more defensively astute. The likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Yves Bissouma are not known for their creativity. The duo are number sixes by trait.
The Denmark international has gotten on the scoresheet more often this season. But fans feel the engine room needs more flair. Rodrigo Bentancur has brought that in the last few weeks, though.
