Daniel Levy told not to back Antonio Conte in transfer market until he signs new Tottenham Hotspur contract
Tim Sherwood has told Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte to back his claims about Spurs fans needing to be patient by setting the example himself and signing a new contract at the club.
Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT, the former Spurs boss said:
“Conte keeps talking about the project and how he needs patience but he hasn’t signed a new contract. I’d suggest signing the contract and then talking about patience and calming everyone down.”
The Italian manager asked for ‘time and patience’ from Tottenham fans after the club’s 2-1 Premier League defeat to Liverpool at N17. This was another instance where Spurs came up short against a ‘big six’ team.
While the performance against the Reds was better than the ones we showed in the losses to Arsenal and Manchester United, it was still not enough to get even a point. We needed a late goal to rescue a draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
These performances showcase that while Spurs can beat teams they are expected to be beating, they aren’t at the level needed to compete with the best teams in the land.
Sherwood even went on to say that chairman Daniel Levy shouldn’t back Conte in the upcoming January transfer window until he commits to his future at the club.
“I think that if he doesn’t win a trophy this year then he’ll leave, I really do. If I’m chairman Daniel Levy I’m not giving him any money until he commits to the club. Why would I buy players to fit the Antonio Conte style if I’m going to bring in another manager with different ideas?”
