Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp makes flattering admission about Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a known admirer of Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min. Fans of both teams would know that and would have seen them interact post full-time in matches between Spurs and the Reds.
The German tactician has now claimed that not signing the South Korea international is one of the biggest mistakes of his life. Speaking to KBS Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo), he said:
“One of the biggest mistakes in my life was not signing him (Son). Outstanding, world-class, and one of the best strikers in the world. I heard he’ll be alright. Maybe need to wear a mask, but even with a mask, he’ll be alright.”
The last bit refers to the eye socket fracture he suffered in our 2-1 win against Olympique de Marseille in the UEFA Champions League. He is supposedly going to be okay to represent his country at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Klopp admits Son Heung-min regret
Son joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025 for a fee of £22million – a few months before Klopp became Liverpool’s manager when he replaced Brendan Rodgers in November of that year.
Perhaps he had his eye on him when he was the manager of Borussia Dortmund. It’s hard to imagine Spurs ever being willing to sell him to a direct top-four rival like Liverpool in the past seven years.
The Reds have signed world-class versatile wingers in the past with Klopp. Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, and Sadio Mane come to mind and Son is a player that fits well in that bracket.
He seems like the perfect player for Klopp’s team – hard-working, versatile, prolific goal-scorer, and a team player.

The South Korean star’s contract is up in the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt) but it remains to be seen if he renews that deal, leaves for elsewhere, or if Klopp remains at LFC to even think about revisiting his interest in a player who will be 33 in July 2025.
