Tottenham Hotspur identify Napoli’s Victor Osimhen ‘ideal replacement’ if Harry Kane leaves

According to transfer reporter Rudy Galetti (h/t Sun), Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Victor Osimhen, especially if Harry Kane leaves the club.

The Lilywhites view him as an ‘ideal replacement’ for the England international who is in the final two seasons of his contract at N17. Bayern Munich have been linked with Kane in recent months after losing Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona this summer.

Osimhen has been a force to reckon with in Italian football ever since he joined them from LOSC Lille Metropole in the summer of 2020. The Nigeria international is hard to dispossess off the ball and has an instinct of being in the right place at the right time.

He can, of course, add a couple of elements to his game as he develops. Kane, after all, gradually became an elite playmaker in the past couple of years and is now seen dropping deep a number of times to create chances for others around him.

Osimhen for Kane?

Osimhen is just 23. There is a lot of potential in him and he could be the man to bring in if Kane was to leave – although it remains to be seen if he does depart the club without renewing his current deal.

Hypothetically, if it does get to a point where Osimhen doesn’t renew his deal by the end of the 2023-24 campaign (the time when Kane’s current contract expires), then Spurs could be in a strong situation with regards to negotiations for the former Lille man.

His current deal, after all, expires in the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt). Spurs fans would want Kane to renew and stay here for as long as possible.

But the harsh reality is that Spurs are still not at the level of clubs like Manchester City or Real Madrid and Kane, at 29, doesn’t have all the time in the world when it comes to his playing career.

There may come a time when Spurs have to think about life without Kane – and then, there won’t be many better options than Osimhen to fill that potential void.
