Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur could face competition from Chelsea for Denzel Dumfries
Tottenham Hotspur could face competition from rivals, Chelsea, for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries in January. This is according to Calciomercato (h/t Express).
It is believed that the 26-year-old could be available for a cut-fee price when the transfer window opens. Inter have set an asking price for just £26.2 million, something not likely to be a problem for either of the London clubs.
Chelsea need an understudy for Reece James. The England international has been their best player so far this season, and it looks like Graham Potter wants to add some competition for him.
Antonio Conte has three right-backs in his squad, but their performances have not been up to the mark. Emerson Royal, who is the preferred option, still needs to improve his game a lot, especially in the final third.
Matt Doherty has had some moments this season, but the defender is 30 and way past his prime. As for Djed Spence, the summer signing is yet to win the trust of Conte and has struggled for game-time this season.
This has left the Italian no choice, but to enter the market in two months’ time. Dumfries has been a regular for his side this season, playing in 20 games in all competitions so far.
