Jurgen Klinsmann backs Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane to lead England to World Cup glory

Germany icon Jurgen Klinsmann has backed Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane to finally win a trophy with England at the World Cup. The former Spurs star feels Qatar could be the crowning moment for the captain of the Three Lions.

Klinsmann won the prestigious golden trophy in 1990 with his national side. It was relatively the striker’s first major silverware in his career. The German then proceeded to lift titles at Bayern Munich as well.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Klinsmann, who had two stints with Tottenham during his playing career, hails Kane for his impact on the game. And the German hopes the 29-year-old can break his duck by winning the World Cup.

“Harry is admirable. He is a complete No 9 and in the top five in the world. But we have suffered a bit for him because he is the kind of player for whom you wish trophies, you know.

“He gets closer and closer to do so with Spurs. Spurs have the capability of winning things now. They have the infrastructure and a beautiful stadium. But obviously he has that hunger for winning trophies and maybe it’s the moment now that it will happen for him in Qatar.”

The 29-year-old has been one of the best players in the world over the years. Unfortunately, titles have eluded him in N17. The England international did reach the Champions League final with the North London side in 2019. Unfortunately, we lost 2-0 to Liverpool.

Kane has also been pivotal for the Three Lions, especially under Gareth Southgate. He has been an essential part of the success England have experienced in recent years.

Southgate’s team reached the World Cup semi-final in 2018 in Russia. But unfortunately, the Spurs striker could not get past Croatia as the Three Lions lost on penalties.

During Euro 2020, Kane was once again pivotal for his national side. And this time around, he made it to the final with England. But the 29-year-old suffered heartbreak at Wembley Stadium as Southgate’s team lost to Italy in the penalty shootout.

In the recent transfer window, Tottenham invested heavily in the squad. The club seemingly reinforced every area of the pitch. And with Antonio Conte at the helm, some fans felt the Italian would be able to break our 14-year trophy drought this season.

Unfortunately, Spurs were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the third round by Nottingham Forest. And our recent form has not been encouraging. However, most supporters will still have faith in Kane finally lifting a trophy in a Tottenham shirt in the coming future.
