Tottenham Hotspur target Piero Hincapie shines for Ecuador against Qatar
The FIFA World Cup kicked off last night as hosts Qatar took on Ecuador in what was the first game of this edition of the showpiece event, with the South American team getting the better of the hosts.
One player who had a great display for the South American club was Piero Hincapie with the talented Bayer Leverkusen defender on the radar of both Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid, according to Express.
Hincapie had a superb display in the backline in a game that Ecuador won 2-0 thanks to a brace from Enner Valencia. The talented centre-back was composed at the back and had a solid presence.
The 20-year-old joined Bayer Leverkusen from CA Talleres in 2021 and has since then really impressed during his time in Germany. He has played 18 times for the club this season scoring one goal.
Hincapie is one of the few young talented players that Ecuador have along with Moises Caicedo and Perves Estupinian and they are the players to keep a lookout for in the Qatar World cup.
Ecuador have made a good start to the competition but have tougher opponents on their horizon in the form of Netherlands and Senegal. Spurs will no doubt keep a keen eye on Hincapie in the rest of the games.
A player like Hincapie, who is still very young and has a lot of potential is set to attract a lot of interest and if he continues having a good World Cup, it is highly likely that he has more suitors who want to buy him.
Ecuador are unlikely to progress much in this World Cup and Hincapie is likely to have only a couple of opportunities to show what he is capable of. He will be hoping to take it with open arms.
