Aston Villa could battle Tottenham Hotspur for former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham
Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa could be locked in a battle to bring AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham back to the Premier League.
The England star was left out of the 26-man FIFA World Cup squad selected by manager Gareth Southgate as a result of his poor form this campaign. He has scored just four times in 21 games across competitions for Roma.
He had a brilliant first season in Italy, where he helped Jose Mourinho’s team win the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League. Now, he is the subject of interest from two Premier League clubs who could use a striker like him.
According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (h/t BirminghamLive), the Villans and the Lilywhites could be in a battle to sign the 25-year-old. He currently has three and a half years left on his contract at the Stadio Olimpico (Transfermarkt).
Tammy to Tottenham?
It is also worth mentioning that Chelsea inserted a huge 80 million Euro buyback clause in Abraham’s contract when he was sold to Roma in the summer of 2021. The Englishman, in all honesty, had a decent spell in England.
He was an impressive presence under former Blues manager Frank Lampard before being slowly sidelined by Thomas Tuchel. It remains to be seen if Chelsea activate that clause with a new manager, Graham Potter, and new owners at the club.
