Transfer News: Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink wants Chelsea to go for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane over Cristiano Ronaldo
Former Chelsea and Leeds United striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink wants the Blues to make a move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane over Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo was recently released from his contract by United and is currently a free agent. The Blues have been linked with a move for the former Real Madrid star.
However, former Blues player Hasselbaink believes his old side should go for Kane instead of the 37-year-old. Speaking to Grosvenor Casino (h/t Football. London), the former striker gave his opinion.
“I would have done Ronaldo for Chelsea in the summer, for one year, but obviously now I think the priorities are bigger in the summer. I would try to persuade Kane to come.”
“That would be a very controversial move, but surely he’s going to want to win things. Surely he knows he’s not going to win with Spurs.”
Kane has been in exceptional form for Spurs this season. The 29-year-old has scored 12 goals in 15 league appearances for the Lilywhites this season.
It is not surprising to see former players urging their old sides to make a move for the England captain. He is after all one of the best strikers in the Premier League and in Europe too.
But he is a very crucial player for Antonio Conte this season. The striker could be considered untouchable at the club and it is understandably so.
While other clubs could be urged, it would be a shock if the striker packs his bags and leaves us in January. The 29-year-old sees his current contract expire in 2024 (Transfermarkt) and a move to a local rival like Chelsea seems highly impossible to happen.
The England international is currently in Qatar for the World Cup. He featured in the 6-2 win over Iran earlier this week, where he did not get any goals but he managed to get two assists.

The main aim now would be to get him back from Qatar with no injuries and have him in the best shape to help us finish the season strongly. It would be an added bonus if we get him on a new deal before the end of the campaign.
