Spurs Transfer News: Chelsea scouts monitoring Tottenham transfer target Piero Hincapie

Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Piero Hincapie is being scouted by Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window., as per Irish Mirror.

The 20-year-old is at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Ecuador and was an important presence in his team’s opening day 2-0 win against Qatar. He was also playing in his team’s impressive 1-1 draw against the Netherlands.

Spurs have been keeping an eye on him but Chelsea’s presence in the transfer race could be worrying for us. They have a need for a centre-back in the long run, just like we do.

Ben Davies has been playing out of position as a left-sided centre-back for way too long. Eric Dier has been impressive but the England international can use someone reliable alongside him and Cristian Romero.

Where next for Hincapie?

Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon, and Japhet Tanganga are arguably not ready to be regular starters for a ‘big six’ club. Hincapie, 20, is raw talent and one that can be moulded into a world-class defender – if he isn’t one already.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will know Thiago Silva cannot keep playing forever. The 38-year-old is currently captaining Brazil at the 2022 FIFA World Cup but his career is coming to an end given his age.

Wesley Fofana’s injury issues has dampened his debut season for Chelsea, while Kalidou Koulibaly, 33, has failed to win over the entirety of the Blues faithful. And this is why we need to be on our toes when it comes to Hincapie.

More Tottenham News:

If we are serious about him, making a move in January would be advisable but there should be an understanding that his stocks could be bloated if he continues to impress for Ecuador at the World Cup.
