Spurs Transfer News: Antonio Conte not against Tottenham defender Emerson Royal joining Inter Milan

Tottenham Hotspur right-back Emerson Royal is on the transfer radar of Inter Milan ahead of the January transfer window, as per Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb (h/t Football.London).

The former Barcelona defender arrived in north London in the summer of 2021 under manager Nuno Espirito Santo. He has been our first-choice player in that position since then.

Manager Antonio Conte is allegedly not against his departure to Inter, whom he managed before taking up the helm at Spurs. That doesn’t come as a surprise.

The Brazilian, who wasn’t included in Brazil’s 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup over Dani Alves, Danilo, and Eder Militao, has been a regular starter for us this campaign – just like the last one.

Farewell Emerson?

While he has had his moments here, he always seems to have a mistake in him. He doesn’t look like a finished product when it comes to his contributions in the attacking third of the pitch.

Defensively, he can be lax as well. It’s not the best thing to cite just one example to showcase a player’s efficacy in situations, but Sporting CP’s second goal in their 2-0 UEFA Champions League win over us is one such instance where his defensive liability was on show.

In the reverse leg, his infamous no-look pass attempt with around 10 minutes to go in the game drew criticism from everywhere and summed up Emerson – a player that can perhaps try too hard at times when things are needed to be kept simple.

Conte is said to be open to him leaving even if no replacement is lined up. If that is the case, then Matt Doherty would be the natural replacement down that flank for the time being, given Conte’s clear lack of trust in summer signing Djed Spence.

More Tottenham News:

It would be unacceptable, however, by the fans if the club weakens itself rather than strengthening in the summer. We are fighting against heavyweights for silverware and a top-four finish and Conte needs a squad that can do that.
