Ghana coach tries taking a selfie with Tottenham Hotspur and South Korea star Son Heung-min

In what was a bizarre moment that occurred in the aftermath of South Korea’s devastating loss to Ghana, a member of the backroom staff of the African nation tried to take a selfie with the disconsolate Son Heung-Min who found himself in tears.

The Tottenham Hotspur man was devastated by not being able to get his side a much-needed victory or at least a draw for his nation. The game eventually ended 3-2 in favour of Ghana putting Son’s team on the brink of elimination.

As huge a superstar as Son is, it was kind of weird to see a Ghana coaching staff try and take a selfie with the Spurs man when he was in such a state. Thankfully, another person from the coaching contingent quickly eased the situation by asking him to put his phone away.

It is understandable why Son was so disconsolate at the result. His side actually played some good football and should have really at least gotten one point out of the game against Ghana but it was not to be.

The result leaves the Asian nation in a very tricky position in the group. Son’s team find themselves third in the group with just one point against their name and all to play for going into the final match.

For South Korea to qualify from here on, they will have to beat the mighty Portugal consisting of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes but even then, they will not be guaranteed qualification.

The Asian side will also need Uruguay to beat Ghana by a not-so-huge margin to go through on goal difference if they beat Portugal. If Ghana draw against Uruguay, South Korea will need to beat Portugal by a margin of at least 3-0 to secure progression to the next round.

If it already seems like a daunting task that the South Koreans cannot pull off, it increases manifolds when you realise that the Asian side will have to do this without their manager Paulo Bento.

Bento was sent-off after the full-time whistle over an altercation with referee Anthony Taylor. South Korea have a difficult but not improbable task on their hands. If Son can lead his nation to the unthinkable, the Spurs man will have a chapter written for himself in the folklore of World Cup football forever.
