Tottenham Hotspur lining up move for French striker Marcus Thuram

According to journalist Ignazio Genuardi, via the Transfer Tavern (h/t Football. London), Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a surprise January move for French striker Marcus Thuram and could make a move soon.

Thuram has been linked with a move to a number of clubs with the French international expected to join a new club on a free transfer with his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2023 (Transfermarkt)

Thuram plays his football for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga and has been having a very impressive season until now. The French striker is also a part of the national team at the World Cup.

In 17 games for the club this season across all competitions, the 25-year-old has scored 13 goals and provided four assists. This form has prompted top European clubs to be interested in it.

One big thing that really holds Thuram an advantage is his ability to play equally well anywhere across the front line. This makes him very desirable for managers who are looking for squad depth.

Here is what the journalist said about Tottenham’s interest in Thuram and about making a move in January.

“Courted by a slew of European formations, M. Thuram could wait until next summer to pack his bags, but a surprise cannot be ruled out this winter. According to some indiscretions, Tottenham could give it a try in January.”

Thuram is a very interesting transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur. He can provide some much-needed cover anywhere across all the forward positions and the best thing is he would be available for a cheap price.

If the German club decide to not lose the player for free, offloading him in the January transfer window will be the only option on their hands – especially if Thuram doesn’t renew his contract. Let’s hope we can pull a deal off for the talented Frenchman.

The headache of where he fits can perhaps be tended to later. A potential free transfer for him, or a possible cut-price deal in January, will be a dream signing for any Tottenham fan.
