John Stones compares Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane and Erling Haaland
Speaking in an interview with the reporters ahead of England’s round of 16 World Cup clash against Senegal as quoted by the Evening Standard, Manchester City defender John Stones has revealed what it feels like to play alongside Erling Haaland at club level and Tottenham superstar Harry Kane on the international stage.
Stones is one of the few players to be privileged enough to play with arguably the two best strikers in the Premier League at the moment and he knows exactly what it feels like to play alongside those two.
When asked if Tottenham superstar Kane is as good as his club teammate, Stones was bullish about the fact that the English national team captain is just as good and even went on to hint that Kane has been playing in the Premier League for a much longer time than Haaland is.
Yes, Haaland has set the stage alight in the Premier League this season scoring goals for fun and making all records until now look obsolete but one must not forget that Kane is also having an excellent season with Tottenham.
His numbers might not be as flashy as the ones that Haaland possesses but Kane has been around long enough to know that it is not all about the numbers and that sustainability in the long run is a major factor.
Kane is a Premier League legend. He has 195 goals from 297 appearances in the English top flight and has been the epitome of consistency in front of the goal for many seasons now. It must also not be forgotten that the English captain is an excellent playmaker as well.
Haaland on the other hand is very nascent in the Premier League and has made just 13 appearances during which he has scored 18 goals. It remains to be seen if the Norwegian sensation can maintain these kinds of numbers over 300-odd matches though.
Here is what John Stones had to say when he was asked if Kane was on the same level as Erling Haaland:
“Definitely [as good], it’s good to say. Erling is so new to our league, and Harry has been playing it all his life pretty much. But yeah, players like those two, their quality always shines through within circumstances”
“The things that don’t get spoken about, the positioning, the headers from corners that us as defenders appreciate massively, what he brings to the team as a leader”

Ultimately, we are blessed to be at a time where we are able to see both Harry Kane and Erling Haaland thriving which makes the Premier League an entertaining league to watch. Both these players have their own strengths but Kane has nothing left to prove as an individual – the onus is on Haaland to do this week in, week out for several years to be worthy of this comparison.
