Tottenham transfer target Josko Gvardiol interested in Real Madrid move

Speaking in an interview with @relevo as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Josko Gvardiol has opened the door for a move to Real Madrid sometime in the future.

The Croatian centre-back has been very impressive in recent times and has been having a stellar World Cup with his nation. Gvardiol plays his football for the Bundesliga club RB Leipzig and has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs.

Tottenham and Chelsea are both very keen on signing the talented defender and both clubs are set to battle it out for the 20-year-old. The Blues are considered to be ahead in the race but Spurs will want to catch up.

With his impressive displays for Croatia at the event in Qatar, his stock is only set to keep rising and this means that both clubs will have to pay big money to tempt Leipzig to sell him in winter.

Josko is a very adept defender capable of playing equally well at centre-back and left-back. He is good on the ball and can pick out a line-breaking pass and also has solid defensive acumen to snuff out opposition attacks.

Speaking about his future, Gvardiol has admitted that he thinks Real Madrid are the biggest club in the world and that he’d like to believe he’d join them someday.

“Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be able to play there. I’d like it. Modric doesn’t have to tell me anything, not needed – I know how special is to be linked with Real Madrid”

They saw Sergio Ramos join PSG last year and sold Raphael Varane to Manchester United this summer. They can always use a quality youngster like Gvardiol to strengthen their defence for the next decade or so.

Whilst Gvardiol’s open admission to join Los Blancos is an invite to the Spanish giants, it doesn’t necessarily mean a transfer will materialise. A lot of things – from the parties’ willingness to the availability of the fund – need to align for a transfer to happen.

Moreover, Spurs aren’t a bad destination for a young player willing to secure regular playing time and develop to his fullest in his formative years. Manager Antonio Conte is one of the best defensive coaches out there and the two could benefit from each other’s presence.

Tottenham under Conte like playing with a back three and a crucial role in that defence is the one played by Ben Davies or Clement Lenglet. Playing on the left side of the back three, they are expected to drive up with the ball at their feet and make difficult passes.

Signing Gvardiol for this role would be just perfect and the Croatian can play this with utmost conviction. He also has the pace to make up ground on the counter and this could be one of the main reasons Tottenham choose to go all out for the Croatian after all. Let’s hope we are able to sign him.
