Hwang Hee-chan reveals Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-Min’s prediction before Portugal vs South Korea
Speaking in an interview after South Korea’s unbelievable win against Portugal last night as quoted by Mirror, South Korean hero Hwang Hee-chan has revealed what Tottenham Hotspur superstar Son Heung-Min told him ahead of the game.
It was a sensational day of football at the World Cup with the South Koreans pulling off a dramatic last-minute win against Portugal in their group to make sure they qualify ahead of Uruguay.
The South Americans were comfortably leading their game 2-0 against Ghana and going through as it stood when South Korea, led by our very own Son scored a goal in injury time to get the three points against Portugal and progress to the next round.
It was Son indeed who got the assist for the match-winning goal with the Spurs forward showing unbelievable composure to thread a pass through to Hwang Hee-chan despite being closed by three Portuguese defenders.
South Korea still had to remain patient for the Uruguay – Ghana game to conclude as even one more goal from the South Americans would have seen the Asian side bow out on goal difference.
Ultimately, Son and South Korea managed to progress to the next round where they will be facing Brazil. It will be a daunting task but as this World Cup has shown us so many times till now, every team seems to be capable of beating the other on a given day.
The match-winner, Hwang Hee-chan has now come out and revealed what Son told him in the build-up to the game.
“Before the match, Son told me I was going to create something today. He said ‘we trust you’. When Son got the ball, I was convinced he would pass to me and it was an excellent pass – it made my job easy.”
As a Tottenham fan, it is amazing to see Son qualify for the next round of the World Cup against all odds and for all that he has done for us over the years and the kind of person that he is, he deserves this.
