Tottenham linked Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie but face Fulham and Aston Villa battle

Franck Kessie has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham, Aston Villa, and Inter Milan just five months after his free transfer to Barcelona this summer, as per beIN Sports.

The Ivory Coast international left AC Milan to join the Barca revolution under manager Xavi Hernandez. Amongst Robert Lewandowski, Andreas Christensen and others, he was one of the star names that walked through the doors at Camp Nou before the start of the season.

But things haven’t gone very well for him so far. He has played in just 212 minutes in La Liga spread across seven games. It is clear he is a midfielder Xavi doesn’t prefer seeing in his starting XI.

Transfer News: Aston Villa have entered the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Franck Kessie.

And one can’t blame him. As long as Sergio Busquets, Gavi, and Pedri are fit, the Spanish tactician would want the three playing given their chemistry at the club and international level.

Then, there is the Netherlands international, Frenkie de Jong, who is also above Kessie in the pecking order. A move to the Cottagers or the Villans could see him get more playing time – or at least the guarantee of it – as compared to Spurs.

The Lilywhites have an elite midfield pairing of Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Yves Bissouma has failed to dislocate the duo from manager Antonio Conte’s pecking order and Tottenham need a player who can offer them solid competition.

Kessie, who is a hard-tackling midfielder with the ability to carry the ball up the pitch, could be the man. But it remains to be seen if Barca flip him for profit so soon in his stay with him.

He currently has three and a half years left on his deal with the Catalan giants (Transfermarkt). With Barca out of the UEFA Champions League this season, it remains to be seen if it gives rise to a need for lightening their financial load by offloading some names from the wage bill.
