Transfer News: Arsenal beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka

According to Italian outlet Il Romanista (h/t Football. London), rivals Arsenal have beaten Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka.

The report claims that the Gooners have reached an agreement to sign the 23-year-old on a free transfer next summer when his current contract with the Bundesliga expires.

If this is true, it will come as a blow to Antonio Conte and Spurs. The French centre-back is one of the most exciting defenders in the Bundesliga and could have fortified our backline.

Ndicka joined the German side in 2018 from the French side AJ Auxerre. Since then, the 23-year-old has gone from strength to strength every season, helping his side win the UEFA Europa League last season.

A regular for the club, the left-footed centre-back who can also play as a left-back, has started in 23 games for the German side in all competitions this season so far, even featuring in both the games against Tottenham in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Spurs have Clement Lenglet on loan this season, while Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez have struggled to provide tough competition to those above them in the pecking order.

Ndicka is a player whose physical attributes and ability on the ball make him an excellent addition to the Spurs squad. Signing him would have helped in adding depth and increasing competition in Antonio Conte’s squad.

But now he appears to have agreed to personal terms with a rival club. It will be wise for Spurs to up their negotiations with other targets as they would want to avoid losing out on landing talented players for free in the future.
