Blow for Tottenham Hotspur as Brighton CEO confirms contract talks for Alexis Mac Allister

Tottenham Hotspur are linked with a move to sign Brighton & Hove Albion superstar Alexis Mac Allister, as per SussexLive.

He entered the Seagulls’ books in January 2019. But after loan spells to Argentinos Juniors and Boca Juniors, it was last season where his genius is beginning to shine through.

He made 33 league appearances and has featured in 14 Premier League matches this campaign as well, showing that he is one of the very first names on their teamsheets every week. He has matched his goals tally from last season (5) in the league already.

His impressive form for Brighton saw Argentina take him to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The 23-year-old started down the left flank in the final of the biggest football match in world football, and provided a brilliant assist for Angel di Maria’s goal against France.

They won on penalties after the game went the full distance, and Mac Allister’s stocks have never been higher following the FIFA World Cup win. It is clear that teams will be sniffing around the youngster.

What next for Spurs?

Brighton, with all due respect, aren’t an English ‘giant’ that can fulfill a player’s biggest domestic and European ambitions. Spurs can.

And that is why there is optimism from fans around this particular rumour, given our project under manager Antonio Conte and the plethora of world-class players in the team. His contract isn’t the longest as well, and he could become a free agent at the Amex in 2025 (Transfermarkt).

But a proud Paul Barber, the Brighton CEO, has confirmed that the club is eager to offer him a new deal. He told talkSPORT exclusively:

“We were working on a new contract for Alexis in the build-up to the World Cup.”

“We hope Alexis will continue to be playing for us for some time to come.”

Committing his future to Brighton for the long term may not be ideal if Mac Allister wants to replicate his international success at the club. It could also make it very hard and even more expensive for teams to sign him if he does start dreaming of a move to a ‘bigger’ club.

And hence, Spurs would be wise to test the waters with an offer for the 23-year-old as soon as they can.
