Tottenham Hotspur ‘likely’ to fail in Antonio Conte contract talks
Tottenham Hotspur are ‘likely’ to fail in their pursuit of tying down manager Antonio Conte to a new contract, as per Daily Mail.
They cite that the Italian manager likes to build pressure on clubs by holding them hostage using his contract situation ahead of important transfer windows. As it turns out, we are less than 10 days away from the January transfer window’s commencement.
Conte’s contract expires at the end of the season, but it has the option to be extended by another year. The Lilywhites are perhaps not taking any chances and trying to eliminate all variables by outright making him sign him a new deal.
They have offered him a payrise of around 1million Pounds a year – by no means a no small amount. But it remains to be seen if it will actually be accepted by the former Juventus and Inter Milan boss.
What next for Conte?
Conte signed a number of players this summer, but when we boil it down to players that immediately strengthened the starting XI, we arguably made just two important signings – Richarlison and Ivan Perisic.
While the latter is a regular fixture down the left flank, Richarlison has strengthened the frontline rather than totally displacing either Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, or Dejan Kulusevski.
Perhaps it’s a good thing if it actually turns out that Conte’s contract renewal is contingent on how Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici perform in the transfer market. A world-class centre-back, a goalkeeper, and perhaps a right-wing-back are the need of the hour.

Our board would know the kind of response it will elicit if we fail to keep Conte on board because the Italian has shown that he is a very capable manager for our team. Perhaps the ex-Chelsea boss wants a show of trust from our board members, and hopefully, they give that to him once the transfer window opens – be it in January or summer.
