Tottenham Hotspur defender Matt Doherty sends a positive message to fans ahead of PL restart

Tottenham Hotspur right-back Matt Doherty has sent a positive message to the fans ahead of the season resumption. The 30-year-old has said that he does not have any “injury concerns” at all.

Doherty picked up a Ligament Tear back in April and missed out on the end of the season. This led to Emerson Royal establishing himself as the first choice in the absence of the Republic of Ireland international.

Things have not changed much this season too, with the Brazilian being the go-to player to be deployed in the right wing-back position. However, the 23-year-old has not lived up to the expectations from him and fans have demanded an upgrade in that position.

With the World Cup stopping the season mid-way, Doherty seems to have found his old form. The 30-year-old has impressed in all the three friendlies that the Lilywhites have played so far, scoring four goals in the process.

Now, as quoted in Football. London, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers right-back believes that he is currently in his “best condition”.

“Physically I’m in a very good place right now. Probably in the best condition I’ve been in for a long time. My knee feels pretty good, I have no injury concerns at all. I’m just ready to attack the second half of the season and see how that goes.”

Doherty has played in 11 games so far in all competitions, starting in five of them. With Royal struggling to perform and Djed Spence not looking like part of Antonio Conte’s plan, maybe the 30-year-old could make a comeback into the first team.

Conte will definitely have taken note of his good form during the friendlies and maybe he will consider giving the right-back so more game time going forward, considering the hectic schedule we have in the coming months.

Spurs have enjoyed a good start to the season so far, sitting fourth on the table. Conte will look to continue where his side left off by picking up a win against Brentford on Monday (December 26), with Doherty being in contention to start the game.
