Antonio Conte offers blunt response to his Tottenham Hotspur future amid contract standoff

Antonio Conte is on a contract at Tottenham Hotspur that expires at the end of the season. Talks regarding an extension have stalled, as per the Express.

It has been claimed that the Italian tactician’s decision to accept or reject a new contract depends on how well he is backed in the upcoming transfer window. Conte has dismissed that notion.

He said at his pre-match conference:

“No [if his future depends on financial backing in transfer windows], but I think I would like also in the future to not speak about this matter in the press conference because I think it is much more important the game we are going to play, in this case Brentford.”

He then addressed that he will take a decision on his future next year.

We talk every day with the club and try to find in every situation the best solution. But I think we have six months to stay together, to enjoy the situation and then we find, I repeat, the best solution. But I am really happy here. This is very, very important for me.”

Spurs apparently spent close to £150million in the summer transfer window. But that doesn’t mean the team is ready to compete for the biggest trophies.

We can surely do with a world-class addition in defence as well as a right-wing back. There is no shortage of top level names being linked with us.

Josko Gvardiol, Denzel Dumfries, and Alessandro Bastoni are just three of them. They are certainly players that would instantly raise the level of our team.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Teams like Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Liverpool boast quality players all over the field. We have to match that if they want to compete with them and even if Conte says his decision to renew his contract doesn’t hinge on backing the transfer windows, the board spending money on players that he would want would certainly go a long way in appeasing him.
