Spurs News: Napoli are keen to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Piero Hincapie amid Tottenham Hotspur interest

Napoli are ‘keen’ to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Piero Hincapie, as per Sky Sports.

Spurs are apparently interested in finding a left-footed centre-back for the long term, and Hincapie could be an option. Currently, manager Antonio Conte has to make do with left-back Ben Davies playing at left centre-half.

At the age of just 20, Hincapie has established himself at the heart of Die Werkself‘s defence. He has played in 18 games across competitions for them this season.

Moreover, he was exposed to the global football fanbase in Qatar when he lined up for Ecuador in all three of their 2022 FIFA World Cup games. Given his age and contract situation, Spurs shouldn’t be amazed if Leverkusen value the player very highly.

Napoli could be a problem for Spurs

Hincapie still has three-and-a-half years left on his contract at the BayArena (Transfermarkt). Moreover, Spurs’ need for a centre-back of such a profile would be out there.

Napoli’s keenness on signing the defender will only add to our troubles. The Italian giants could be looking to strengthen their defence, which currently has a dearth of world-class options.

Kim Min-jae has fulfilled the task of replacing Kalidou Koulibaly at the heart of their defence since the Senegal international’s move to Chelsea this summer. But the South Korea international has attracted interest from Liverpool most recently, and will only attract more suitors if he keeps up his performances.

Leo Ostigard and Amir Rrahmani are two options, but they are hardly household names in world football. 31-year-old Juan Jesus, meanwhile, is in the final six months of his contract at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium (Transfermarkt).

Hence, the need could be there for Napoli to go out and get Hincapie. And that is why Spurs must be quick and decisive with their interest in their player – no matter what it takes to sign him. It’s high time we address the lack of a centre-back on the left side of the field.
