Cristian Romero talks about his friendship with Hugo Lloris

Speaking to Tottenham Hotspur’s official website, talented defender Cristian Romero has talked about his friendship with club captain Hugo Lloris.

Romero was asked if he exchanged texts with Lloris before the World Cup finals in which Argentina eventually beat France, and the 24-year-old was full of admiration for the French shot-stopper.

Hugo Lloris who is now 36 announced his retirement from international football a couple of days ago. His last game for Les Blues would be the World Cup final where he came so close to winning back-to-back titles.

Lloris has come under some scrutiny for his performances this season. He has been very inconsistent in goal and has made quite a few mistakes leading to goals against his team which is not good.

It looks like age is catching up with the veteran goalie and he does not seem to have much left in him at the top level. On the other hand, Romero is at the other age of the end spectrum and is just getting started.

Here is what the Argentinian centre-back had to say about Lloris and how the club captain helped him settle in at Spurs.

“Well, yes. We sent some text messages before. He is always a great person and since the first day I arrived here in Tottenham, he has always helped me. After the game, yes, obviously we talked a bit, then I left with my team and he went with his.”

Lloris has been a great captain and servant for Spurs. He has led the team very well for quite a few seasons now and his commanding presence often seems to rub off on the players when on the pitch.

Romero is one of the most talented young centre-backs going around. Never shying away from a tackle, the Argentinian is a typical South American defender and has a great future in the game, hopefully with Tottenham.

Lloris might not be around at Spurs for too long. However, just like Romero has said, he has helped a lot of players here and he will leave a Tottenham legend when he decides the time has come.
