Salernitana worried Tottenham boss Antonio Conte might block move for Pape Matar Sarr

According to Italian publication La Citta di Salerno (translated into English), Serie A club Salernitana are worried that Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte might block a move for talented midfielder Pape Matar Sarr.

The Italian club are looking to sign the talented Senegalese midfielder on loan. However, there is a feeling that Antonio Conte might end up keeping him and using him in the squad for the rest of the season.

The former Metz man seems to have impressed Conte as he has seen his game time improve considerably in recent weeks. After a few cameos off the bench, Sarr was given the chance to start in Tottenham’s FA Cup clash against Portsmouth.

To be fair to Sarr, he did not disappoint. His talent was obvious in the cameo appearances off the bench and in the game that he did start, the Senegalese midfielder was calmness personified and almost always made the right decisions.

Salernitana have not really been discreet about their pursuit of the talented midfielder. Club director Morgan de Sanctis did reveal that the Tottenham youngster was the kind of player they were looking at adding to the team.

The 20-year-old midfielder needs regular game time to develop but if the last few weeks are any indication, it looks like Sarr would get that should he stay on in West London and not move away on loan.

There are quite a few things that seem to be going Sarr’s way at the moment. Tottenham’s midfield options are rather functional and the Senegalese adds a different dimension to the area.

Summer signing Yves Bissouma has failed to impress so far. The former Brighton man has surprisingly been struggling to get a foothold and he is yet to adapt to an Antonio Conte system.

Pape Matar Sarr is a talented player who has a huge future in the game. It remains to be seen how the Senegalese’s future pans out in Tottenham and if Salernitana actually manage to snap him up.
