“One to keep an eye on”- Reputed journo admits January transfer target could struggle for game-time at Spurs
Alasdair Gold admits Leandro Trossard might struggle for regular game time at Tottenham
According to Football. London journalist Alasdair Gold, Leandro Trossard might tick a few boxes for Tottenham but he might not get regular game time here.
The Belgian has been linked with a move to Hotspur Way for quite some time now. He has been having an exceptional Premier League campaign with Brighton and has arguably been his best player.
However, Trossard’s contract with the Seagulls expires in the summer and even though there are claims that Brighton have triggered their one year option on his contract as even Gold alluded to, he could still be available for a decent price.
Gold is of the opinion that even though Trossard might tick a few boxes for Tottenham, he is unlikely to be a regular starter here and that is something that the Belgian could be looking forward to.
“Trossard is an interesting one. The 28-year-old wouldn’t be a normal Spurs profile signing but ticks a few boxes, while he won’t cost a fortune even if Brighton have reportedly activated an extra 12 months on his deal”
“If Trossard is after regular starts though he may not find it at Tottenham, competing with Son and Richarlison mainly and also Perisic for a place on the left. It’s one to keep an eye on”
It is true that Trossard might not have a natural place in a Conte system. However, what works for him is that he has shown his versatility at Brighton and is capable of playing on either wing or even through the middle.
Antonio Conte has also shown in the past that he does not shy away from converting a winger into a wing-back should the need arise as he has done so famously with Ivan Perisic first at Inter Milan and now at Tottenham.

Considering the incredible work rate that Trossard has shown, there is a genuine possibility that Conte looks at him as a wing-back in his team although that could come at the cost of compromising on his goal output.
The competition for places is huge at Tottenham in the forward areas but the same cannot be said about the wing-back positions though. That said, the Belgian must be willing for such a shift in his career.

It remains to be seen how this Trossard situation develops. He is not a signing that Tottenham should really look to go all-out for. However, adding him to the roster will certainly boost our strength in depth up front.
