Antonio Conte backs Tottenham Hotspur skipper Hugo Lloris despite recent mistakes

Speaking in the post-match press conference as quoted by Football. London, Antonio Conte has backed Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris and thrown his weight behind him despite the recent mistakes from the Frenchman.

Tottenham got outclassed 2-0 by Arsenal in the North London Derby with a Hugo Lloris own goal and Martin Odegaard’s long-range strike being sufficient for the Gunners to get past the Lilywhites.

One player who had a torrid time in a Tottenham shirt last night was none other than our captain Lloris. In fact, the 36-year-old has been having a very bad time at Spurs for quite some time now.

Whilst he has never been the most composed presence between the goalposts and has made errors in the past, they used to be few and far between. Unfortunately this year though, Lloris is looking every bit of his 36 years of age whilst playing.

One cannot question the importance of Lloris to the Tottenham team. He is considered an excellent leader off the field as well and despite his performances, he continues to inspire his team a lot.

Speaking about the player’s errors in recent times, Conte has continued to insist that Lloris is very important to the team.

“I think that it’s not positive to be focused on only one situation or two situation. honestly I consider Hugo one of the best keepers in the world and it can happen”

Whilst Conte has thrown his weight behind Lloris publicly, he will no doubt be worried about the French World Cup winner’s poor form. It could really hurt Tottenham and is not an ideal situation to be at.

With every passing game, it does seem like Hugo’s time at the top is coming to an end. It seems highly unlikely that he will discover his best level anymore and it would be wise for Tottenham to seek a replacement.

It remains to be seen how Lloris plays for the rest of the season. If he can make a comeback, it will be great but even if not, the Frenchman has already established himself as a Tottenham legend.
