Chelsea make Tottenham target Pedro Porro their priority this January
According to journalist Simon Phillips (h/t Football. London), Chelsea have made Tottenham Hotspur target Pedro Porro their priority after securing the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk.
Spurs are also keen on signing Porro although they are still apprehensive about triggering his release clause. Chelsea on the other hand will not hesitate to trigger the clause and sign the talented Spaniard.
Chelsea and Spurs are looking for a right-back for completely different reasons. The Blues want a backup to Reece James with the English international very injury-prone and he could be reduced to a bit part role.

Spurs on the other hand need a player for a position they have really struggled in this campaign. This is despite having as many as three players for that one particular position but none of them are particularly convincing.
Emerson Royal has not been up to the level in an attacking sense. Matt Doherty has been extremely inconsistent both with form and injuries. Djed Spence is regarded as too young and has not been given a chance.
It is easy to understand why Porro is the chosen one to replace one of these players. The former Manchester City youth player is excellent going forward and also holds his own defensively.
However, there are question marks over how well Porro can adapt to the rigours of the Premier League. It is a very testing league to be in and it remains to be seen if the Spaniard can take to it easily.
The presence of Chelsea will undoubtedly complicate things for Tottenham. The Blues have shown that they do not mind spending as much cash as it takes to land a target they want, and would be going all the way to sign Porro.
