David Raya coy on future plans amidst Tottenham interest

Speaking to Spanish outlet AS as quoted by Football. London, Brentford shot-stopper David Raya has remained coy on his future plans amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Raya admitted that he was very happy and focused at Brentford but opened the door for the Lilywhites by saying that every player is looking to grow and that his future will be assessed in the summer.

The Spanish shot-stopper is a target for Tottenham in the summer. He is one of the names lined-up as a possible replacement for captain Hugo Lloris, with the Frenchman expected to be replaced in the summer.

Lloris has had a torrid time at N17 this season, making a lot of mistakes and not being a reliable presence at the back. At 36, Tottenham must be looking towards the future and Raya could be the answer.

The Spanish goalie has been very impressive for Brentford. He is very important to how the club prefer to play with his involvement in starting attacks with accurate long balls, something that Thomas Frank really values.

It is clear that managers rate Raya very highly. He is one of the first names on the team-sheet for Brentford. Even former Spain manager Luis Enrique chose to take Raya to the World Cup ahead of the likes of more established names like David de Gea and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Speaking about his future, Raya did say that there is a possibility to discuss a move in the summer but he did not give away too much.

“Every player has goals and wants to improve. “Now I am focused on my team and in the summer, we will see what happens”

The other name that is really doing the rounds as one of Tottenham’s short-listed candidates to replace Lloris is that of Everton goalie Jordan Pickford. The English international is a much more established name than Raya.

However, Raya is much younger and at this point, he definitely has a higher ceiling. His ball-playing abilities are definitely superior to that of Pickford and he will only be a player who gets better with age.
