Tottenham Hotspur make player plus cash bid for Sporting CP right-back Pedro Porro

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur have made a player plus cash bid for talented Spanish right-back Pedro Porro from Portuguese club Sporting CP.

Romano has not mentioned the name of the player that the Lilywhites have offered in their negotiations but considering the number of existing right-backs they have in the squad, it could be one of Emerson Royal or Matt Doherty.

However, the Liga NOS club have been quick to reject this approach from Tottenham as they do not want a player involved in the deal. Sporting CP want the player’s €45m release clause triggered.

As talented as Porro is, Tottenham are not yet willing to pay the release clause although they might end up doing so should they be unable to convince the Primeira club to enter negotiations for the player.

Romano has confirmed that Tottenham will continue pushing to reach a formula with Sporting CP. However, the club seem adamant about receiving the whole release clause fee and it remains to be seen how Fabio Paratici & co. handle this situation.

Pedro Porro has been Tottenham’s priority ever since the transfer window started. However, it looks like they have put all their eggs in this one basket and that they really do not have alternatives lined up.

The existing options in that position in Emerson, Doherty and Djed Spence have failed to convince. The latter is very young though and might still be an important player in the future but the former duo have been given enough chances.

Pedro Porro will be a solid option to reinforce the right-wing-back position. However, it remains to be seen if he can adapt to the physical demands of the Premier League and fulfil his promise at N17.

Tottenham need to work out a way to bring Porro to North London. In all fairness though, his release clause is not ridiculous by any means and it might be worth paying a fee around the same figure to sign the player.
