Arnaut Danjuma explains why he swapped Villarreal for Tottenham Hotspur in January

Tottenham Hotspur signed Arnaut Danjuma on a loan deal until the summer from Villarreal last month.

According to ESPN, it is a simple loan transfer with no option to make the deal permanent. Bryan Gil was the only attacker who departed N17 this January as he joined Sevilla on a loan transfer.

Danjuma, 25, has prior experience playing in the Premier League during his two seasons at AFC Bournemouth. He jumped ship when the Cherries were relegated and joined the Yellow Submarine in the summer of 2021.

Since then, the winger has shown his ability to be a potent winger capable of making chances for his teammates, beating players, and getting on the scoresheet himself. Speaking on the reason behind his temporary switch to N17, Danjuma said (h/t Football.London):

“Playing my first minutes for the club gave me a good feeling and then, to score on my debut, that is something that you obviously would always like to do.

“For me, I just really came here hoping to be a beacon of light for the fans and try to give them something new, get them enthusiastic, help the team perform better and try to prove myself to the club.”

His comments came for the matchday program for Spurs’ Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday (5 February). He was an unused substitute during the game.

Danjuma got a taste of first-team football as he played and scored in the 3-0 FA Cup win against Preston North End at Deepdale last month. Hopefully, he provides serious competition for our forwards and gives them a run for their money.

It won’t be an easy task, given Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are virtually untouchable. But Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison’s places would surely be up for grabs for him – or, he could just be utilised as an impact substitute in games.
