Ben Jacobs claims that Tottenham are one of the clubs interested in Martin Zubimendi
Martin Zubimendi, the Real Sociedad midfielder, is drawing a lot of interest from top clubs around Europe. CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Tottenham and Manchester United are two of the clubs who are interested in the Spanish international.
The 24-year-old has been a standout performer in La Liga, which has caught the attention of several top clubs including Arsenal, as recently reported by Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive CaughtOffside column.
The talented midfielder could be available for a fee of just € 60 million, which is a reasonable price for a player of his calibre. Manchester United is in dire need of strengthening their midfield and could see Zubimendi as an upgrade over Fred and Scott McTominay.
On the other hand, Tottenham could also benefit from having the Spanish international in their team after a slightly disappointing season. Except for Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg, the other options have failed to convince.
Zubimendi is known for his calmness on the ball and intelligent defending. He is also a reliable aerial duelist and wins his fair share of second balls. The Spanish international signed a new five-year deal with Real Sociedad in October.
With the summer window just around the corner, a transfer is looking very possible. According to Jacobs,
“Suitors in January were told to pay Zubimendi’s €60m release clause or no deal would be done. And the player himself wasn’t really pushing for a move. But a transfer is very possible come summer, especially considering Zubimendi wasn’t willing to have his release clause raised. That makes him attainable on the market”
Barcelona are another club who have been heavily linked with the Spanish international. It is understood that Xavi Hernandez is a huge fan of the player and wants to take him to the Nou Camp.
Zubimendi is one to look out for in the summer. His obvious talent is making him a desirable pursuit for many top European clubs and Real Sociedad would do well to keep him beyond this season.
