Gold says Tottenham Hotspur chief ‘admired’ Tete before Leicester City move in January

Tottenham Hotspur sporting director Fabio Paratici has been an ‘admirer’ of Leicester City winger Tete.

The 22-year-old Brazilian joined the Foxes on a six-month loan deal. However, according to Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold, Tete is a player who has been admired by Spurs’ Italian chief.

Answering a question in a Q&A session, Gold said (h/t LeicesterLive):

“I know Fabio Paratici has been a big admirer of Tete for a little while. Perhaps the short-term nature of the deal is why Spurs did not get involved now and like you say perhaps they look again in the summer, depending on what the future holds for Paratici.”

It remains to be seen if we revisit our interest in the Shakhtar Donetsk loanee in the summer. He was signed by the Foxes as his contract with the Ukrainian side is frozen due to FIFA regulations regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine.

He spectacularly scored on his debut for the Foxes in their 4-2 Premier League win against Aston Villa on 4 February. It is clear that the young Brazilian has talent and flair.

A smart option

Spurs would be wise to revisit their interest in their future. Arnaut Danjuma was signed from Villarreal on a loan deal last month, which shows that manager Antonio Conte believes that the team needs a solid first-team forward.

Bryan Gil is clearly not up to the task given the fact he was allowed to join Sevilla on loan until the end of the campaign. Lucas Moura, meanwhile, is set to leave the club as a free agent this summer.

Hence, we could use someone like Tete in our team. It remains to be seen if our board members deem Tete as a signing we can make in the future. His loan spell at the King Power Stadium can be crucial.

It will define how he will fit in the Premier League if a team wants to onboard him for the long run, but could also raise his stocks, which could go against his potential suitors.
