Alasdair Gold: Tottenham Hotspur star Ryan Sessegnon is devastated by latest hamstring injury
Tottenham Hotspur’s Ryan Sessegnon has been dealt yet another blow in his promising career, as he sustained yet another hamstring injury in a training session.
Football journalist Alasdair Gold reported that the injury is expected to keep him out of action for at least six weeks, leaving the 22-year-old devastated. It’s not the first time that the talented youngster is going through something like this.
Sessegnon’s recurring hamstring problems have been a source of frustration for the young winger, who has struggled to establish himself in the Tottenham squad since his arrival from Fulham in 2019.
His talent is undeniable, and his performances in the Championship earned him the prestigious EFL Young Player of the Year award in 2018-19. However, injuries have hampered his progress, and his latest setback will be a bitter pill to swallow.
The timing of the injury is particularly cruel, considering how much Antonio Conte has trusted him this season. This felt like the talented youngster’s breakout season in a Tottenham shirt and he would have wanted to continue on a similar note.
Sessegnon’s pace and directness would have been a valuable asset for Tottenham in these games, but once again, he finds himself on the sidelines. This means that Ivan Perisic has to be the main man going forward.

“Ryan Sessegnon, somehow, in a training session – whether it was the next day, it was certainly pretty close to the game – another hamstring injury. Honestly… another hamstring injury, and from what I understand, it is going to keep him out for at least six weeks.”
“I’m just gutted for Ryan Sessegnon. I know he’s absolutely devastated by this. 22 years old, poor kid. It just seems to be his thing, hamstring problems.”
The club has a duty of care to manage Sessegnon’s injury problems carefully, ensuring that he does not rush back too soon and risk exacerbating the issue. Considering his history, it is hardly the wise thing to do.
