Antonio Conte names injuries as the main reason for Tottenham Hotspur’s inconsistency

Speaking in the pre-match press conference as quoted by Football. London, Antonio Conte has pointed out that injuries as the main reason for Tottenham Hotspur’s inconsistency this season.

This may come as no surprise to some Tottenham fans who have seen their team struggle to find a rhythm in the Premier League. However, with the Champions League round of 16 clash against AC Milan looming tonight, it is important for Tottenham to find a way to overcome this challenge.

Last year, Tottenham had a surge of consistency in the last 14 games of the season, winning 10 out of 14 games. This run of form was unexpected, given the circumstances, Tottenham were in at the time.

The start of the season for Tottenham appeared to be heading in a similar direction. The team had resumed in the same way as the previous year, but injuries soon started to take their toll and the results dropped off.

The midfield has really taken a hit in recent weeks. Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur are set to be long-term absentees in that area. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is set to miss tonight’s game due to a suspension.

Conte believes that to be competitive, Tottenham needs stability. Here is what he had to say about the inconsistency.

“Unfortunately this is the truth, it’s like you say. Last year we had consistency in the last 14 games, we won 10 out of 14 and then to get into the Champions League we did something that was unexpected, it was incredible considering the situation we had”

“You need stability, you need consistency, you can’t have these ups and downs. I am trying to work on this and focusing on not having ups and downs”

Consistency is crucial in order to achieve something important. Without it, the team is left vulnerable to the unpredictable nature of injuries and other unforeseeable events and that is visible right now.

Stability and consistency are necessary for Tottenham to become a top team, one that can compete with the best in Europe. That’s where the club wants to be but they are far off in that regard.
