Tottenham Hotspur owners’ stance on selling the club in wake of potential £3.1b bid

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy and majority stakeholder Joe Lewis are expected to reject any potential bids from American-Iranian businessman Jahm Najafi, as per Sky Sports (h/t Daily Star).

The offer is expected to be between £3billion and £3.5billion. Najafi is the chair of MSP Sports Capital and has a net worth of around £2.9billion.

Spurs, meanwhile, are valued at around £1.9billion but a huge bid will be needed to get Levy anywhere near close to considering a sale of the club. Levy has been our chairman since 2001.

He is a tough negotiator and while not all fans have been on board with his spending habits (or the lack of it) in recent years, it is safe to say he has kept the club’s best interest at heart.

Spurs could have new owners

It can’t always be said that new owners lead to progress or bigger investment in the market. We have been doing decent in recent windows, in all honesty.

Players like Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have been retained. It has been a while since we have lost a truly world-class name to another superclub.

Kane’s future perhaps will be something that will decide fans’ opinion on our ownership. The England international is on a contract in the summer of 2024 and has interest from Manchester United.

His future at N17 may or may not have anything to do with how Levy and co. handle negotiations. Perhaps his potential desire to leave the club can be a telling factor. But fans will have the ownership to direct their anger towards in case they lose their club’s greatest player of all time.

This summer transfer window, where we could use a world-class defender and a Hugo Lloris successor, could define how we view the ownership. Failure to address our problems could lead to fans demanding new owners.
